Competitive students will receive comments and ratings\, and are competing for a place in the Baroque Competition Winners' Recital. Any student who is selected for the recital\, but does not perform will not receive the award and an alternate will take his/her place. Repertoire Guidelines & General Information: Baroque Festival: This festival is designed to give the prepared student the audition experience without the competitive format. The student may perform any Baroque piece (written 1600-1750)\, including pieces from the Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook; W. F. Notebook. The student should be entirely prepared despite the noncompetitive nature of this festival. Time Limit: 5 minutes. Entry Fee: $20. Ages: Kindergarten through Senior in High School Baroque Competition: Any solo keyboard\, string\, flute or vocal work by a baroque composer\, including concertos. Time Limit: 10 minutes. Entry Fee: Solos: $30 Concerti: $40. Ages: Kindergarten through Senior in High School No repeats should be taken unless they are altered with ornamentation\, rhythm\, or articulation. Awards: Up to 25% of the students participating in the Baroque Competition will be chosen as finalists. All students will receive written evaluations and certificates of participation. Teachers of the winning students will receive an email. These students will perform in the Baroque winners’ recital with a professional chamber group to accompany the concerto winners. There will be a reception and trophies for the all winners. Alternates will be chosen and are expected to be available. Student Guidelines: Recital dress and shoes are expected. Students must be at the site 15 minutes before the scheduled recital start time with their original music scores. Any student arriving after performance begins will be allowed to perform\, but will not be considered for the prizes. Music must be performed from memory. Students must bring their scores\, with measures numbered and pages paper clipped. Students who exceed time limits will be stopped\, but not disqualified. Registration & Teacher Guidelines: Online registration and payment for this event is available. Registration for the Baroque Festival/Competition should be received by October 24. If you have siblings or any special requests\, please indicate on the application. Note\, changes to all the students’ repertoire information will be allowed up to the week prior to the event but it must be made in the form of a new application sent by mail. No email changes will be made as this adds to the workload of the chairman. All teachers entering students into this event are expected to assume they will be needed all afternoon. Teachers will receive their scheduled duties a week or so before the event. If you are unable\, then you will be required to send a responsible substitute in your place. This is a good opportunity for students to earn community service. The final decision on scheduling and related aspects of the event rests with the chairman. Remember this is a Festival above all else. As I write all these rules and regulations\, I am concerned that we might lose the point of this festival. We want to keep this a positive and encouraging event. All the students should leave feeling a great accomplishment\, regardless of the results of the competition. The percentage of winners is large so more students will be given the chance to perform in the Winners Recital. Please come with a positive outlook for all the students\, not just for your students.
